Jammu : World Health Day was observed in all districts of Jammu Division to raise awareness about general health issues.
This year, in the midst of Covid pandemic, a polluted planet and an increasing incidence of cancer, heart disease, asthma, water, air, food and vector borne diseases and premature deaths, the theme chosen by WHO for this day was ‘Our Planet, Our Health’.
A series of activities were conducted in all districts of Jammu division to underline urgent actions to be taken to keep humans and the planet healthy.
Advisory regarding the theme was published in print media and messages in the form of audios & videos were also disseminated through social media to generate mass awareness.
Community level activities were also held, including awareness lectures by doctors on achieving good health by adopting environmental friendly measures like switching over to green fuel, maximum use of public transport, use of efficient energy products, planting trees. Debates, seminars, quiz and poster making competitions were also held in educational institutions.
A series of Plantation drives were conducted in health institutions. Yoga sessions were also organized to inculcate the habit of practicing Yoga as a daily routine to keep fit.
The staff and students took out rallies to sensitize the public regarding different means to be adopted to make themselves and the planet healthy. District dignitaries, PRIs and NGOs were involved in the activities conducted on the day.
Director Health Services Jammu exhorted the people to take measures in order to achieve equitable health now and for future generations without breaching environmental limits.
