Shopian : The District Magistrate (DM) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya Thursday directed all financial and business units (Bus) to install CCTV cameras for the overall security of the public.
In an order issued here, he asked all financial and business units in the district to install ‘good quality’ CCTV cameras and report any suspicious activity to the police. DM, said, surveillance is an important tool to monitor public movement and to prevent crime and militancy.
Vaishya said in view of the prevailing persistent threat relating to recent increased incidents of selective targeting of the innocent citizens in Jammu and Kashmir by the anti-national and subversive elements, the same requires several preventive measures including the use of appropriate technologies, to safeguard life and property.
He said the video surveillance has become a necessary tool to monitor public movements and to prevent crime and militsancy. “The role of CCTV cameras in improving safety cannot be undermined because they not only help in deterrence surveillance and detection of crime but are a very important tool for the law and enforcement agencies in the prosecution and bringing the culprits/ offenders to the book,” reads the order.
The order further stated that criminals, anti-social and anti-national elements in the past have targeted these business establishments causing loss of life and property. ‘Installation of CCTVs would help in controlling crime’, reads the order.
