Sansad Khel Spardha: Inter Block tournament concludes at Doda

Chess Grandmaster Arushi Kotwal hails District Admin for organising grand talent hunt

Doda : The final day of inter block tournament under the aegis of Sansad Khel Spardha, witnessed a series of U17 girls and boys Chess and Carrom competitions here at community hall Doda.
The matches and the competitions were officiated by the District Youth Services and Sports department, under the overall supervision of District Development Commissioner Doda Vikas Sharma.
Wednesday’s event was inaugurated by the International Chess player and Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puruskar awardee Arushi Kotwal and DYSSO Doda.
While speaking on the occasion, Arushi said that her achievements are the result of continuous struggle and her dedication to the sports. She advised the players not to get disheartened with the results and asked them to keep pushing themselves forward for a better future.
She also applauded the district administration for organising such a grand event to identify the local sports talent and hoped that such events would be held in future also to provide youth a platform to excel as a sportspersons.
DYSSO Jaffar Haider Sheikh informed that after the successful completion of the Panchayat level event under Sansad Khel Spardha around 800 players were selected under different categories to compete at the block level which is going to culminate Wednesday. He said that local talent who have excelled at National and international platforms were nominated as brand ambassadors of this event which includes Mithun Manhas, Ace shooter Chain Singh and Chess Grandmaster Arushi Kotwal.
During Wednesday competition Nadeem and Sarfaraz of Marmat won gold and silver in single carrom event, whereas Sharik of Dali Udhyanpur won the bronze
In chess girls of Bhaderwah, Khellani and Bhalla won the medals.
