BIS J&K holds awareness prog for Distt Head of Deptts at Budgam

Budgam: A daylong sensitization program was Tuesday organised by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) (J&K Branch) at New Conference Hall of DC office Complex, here.
The awareness program was chaired by ADDC Budgam, AkramullahTak. Among others the program was also attended by Director BIS J&K SatyadeoLal, Joint Director BIS (J&K) NishaBura, GM DIC, CPO, CAO, Designated Food Safety Officer Budgam, Ex. Engineers of R&B & I&FC, E.Os of MCs and other concerned officers and officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director BIS (J&K) said that the aim and objective of the program is to aware the Heads of Departments in District Budgam about the Quality of products available in markets which eventually benefits General public. He said that the focus of BIS is to handhold the industry so as to ensure quality products reach the consumer.
It is pertinent to mention here that BIS was initially known as Indian Standard Institution and got renamed as Bureau of Indian Standards in Year 1986.
NishaBura J.D BIS (J&K) also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the role of BIS J&K through power point presentation. She said that BIS is primarily assigned the task of formulation of Standards for countries. Last Consumer of the Country should get benefitted through services provided by BIS, Nisha remarked.
While highlighting the significance of BIS, Nisha said that BIS also provides Product certification. She said that samples taken from various business and factory units are taken to the laboratory for testing before issuance of certificate of Registration.
She said that BIS also imparts training to the staff and carry sensitization program across the country.
It was revealed in the program that 380 products have mandatory ISI Marking and in near future, another 700 Products shall be added in the list for which BIS/ISI Marking shall be Mandatory.
Nisha also informed the gathering that the general public can register complaints through online mode regarding any violation related to product quality. Besides standardization and Training, BIS also provides Hallmarking and Compulsory Registration to the Factory units, Nisha added.
India is the World’s largest Third Party Certification scheme holder and in this direction, BIS is at the forefront of taking this initiative forward, Nisha said.
She concluded by saying that BIS values the safety, security, environment and health of the consumer and the focus is to work on these areas in the larger interest of society.
YameenNabi, Designated Food Safety Officer Budgam, presented a vote of thanks and said that the Awareness Program of Standards and Quality is always a good initiative and shall be held across the length and breadth of the district in future as well.
