ICDS Anantnag organises seminar on BBBP

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Anantnag : Under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, ICDS Anantnag Monday organised an awareness camp cum seminar at Town hall, here.
Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a campaign of the Government of India that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in India.
The DDC chairman Mohd Yousuf Gorsi while speaking on the occasion said that every step must be taken to encourage the girl child. He said that the recent results of 10th and 12th class are evidence that girls are capable and can outshine boys when given the right encouragement.
He said that the department has been instrumental in spreading awareness among the masses and urged them to continue the good work.
Program Officer, ICDS Zahoor Ahmad said that females compete with and are ahead of their male counterparts in various fields of education, sports, etc.He said the various social rituals that impose unnecessary burden on parents of the girl child must be discarded by the society as a whole and the department is committed to spread awareness and drive change in the society.
Various other speakers shared their views on the occasion with all of them emphasizing on spreading awareness regarding the importance of education for females and taking steps to encourage girls in various spheres.
Speakers on the occasion shed light on the issues that the girl child is facing and the social discrimination, though much less than before but still witnessed in some quarters and sustained efforts are necessary to drive social change.
The program was attended by ICDS officials, anganwadi workers, students of various institutes, besides a large number of participants.
