Drug de-addiction awareness prog held at Shopian

Shopian :  A drug de-addiction awareness program was Monday organised by Health department Shopian at Public Health Centre, Vehil and Harmain, here.
On the occasion, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Shopian, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Shopian, other officers and officials of health department and ASHA workers besides, a large number of people including school going children, participated in the daylong awareness program.
The speakers deliberated on the drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking preventive measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district.
The organisers said that the main aim of the program was to spread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the drug menace.
CMO Shopian, Dr.Arshid Tak, who was the chief guest on the occasion, asked the students not to indulge in drug abuse and other social evils and instead be role models in the field of education, sports and other activities.
Highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, he said that it starts merely as an amusement but ends up becoming addiction.The young generation is the most-affected section of drug addiction that needs to be eradicated completely from the society, he said seeking cooperation of all stakeholders.
Dr.Arshid said that the Shopian administration would lend a helping hand to anyone who was feeling stressed and ensure that youth instead engage in sports activities.
BMO Shopian, Dr. Mohammed Yousuf also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the parents to keep track of their children for keeping them safe from the menace of drug addiction.
During the event, the participants demanded for more such programs in Shopian to which the chief guest assured all possible help.
The members of civil society, religious preachers, teachers and students also spoke and highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their support and cooperation for a peaceful environment.
