Jammu: Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Sagar D. Doifode Monday distributed AI kits and other associated equipments among Multipurpose Artificial InseminationTechnicians in Rural India (MAITRI) at function organized here at Directorate of Animal Husbandry complex, Talab Tillo.
Speaking on the occasion, the Director Animal Husbandry Jammu said that MAITRIs are chosen from unemployed educated youth from across the districts of Jammu province and trained at the accredited AI training institutes according to the training module developed by the Govt. of India.
“The MAITRIs are established under the scheme ‘National Program for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development’. They are multipurpose workers and along with their primary role i.e. Artificial Insemination, they will also take up other important associated tasks in rural areas viz.Veterinary first aid, Livestock vaccinations, data entry in National database, Milk recording, distribution of Fodder seeds, Livestock Insurance etc” the Director elaborated.
During the function, Artificial Insemination kits, Cryocans and other useful equipment were provided to the MAITRIs of Jammu district by the Director. “Establishment of MAITRIs in rural areas shall go a long way in ensuring breed improvement of local cattle and buffaloes which will lead to increased milk production besides generating sustainable self employment avenues for unemployed educated youth”, he added.
While interacting with MAITRIs, he advised them to work with utmost sincerity for the benefit of farmers by making available the latest reproductive technologies in bovine breeding at their doorsteps.
The MAITRIs also expressed gratitude towards the Department of Animal Husbandry Jammu for proper guidance and support.
