Kishtwar : To spread awareness among the students and general public about importance of vote in democratic process, an awareness rally was Saturday organised at Government Degree College Chatroo as part of Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign and under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The whole event was organised under the guidance of Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi and under the overall supervision of Principal GDC Chatroo Dr Ashaq Hussain.
In the beginning of the programme, an introductory lecture was delivered by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad, Nodal officer SVEEP. He threw light on the concept of ‘My vote, My right’. He urged the students to act as harbingers and pass on the message of electoral participation among the common masses.
Later, a rally of the students, faculty members and non teaching staff was flagged off by Dr Ashaq Hussain. The rally started from GDC Chatroo and culminated at the Tourist Reception Centre. The students chanted slogans on voting rights, power of vote, electoral process and carried play cards in various languages.
Meanwhile, the rally assembled at TRC where the students expressed their views on the theme.
Dr Ashaq Hussain, in his concluding remarks, congratulated the faculty members and students for this initiative and assured them of full support in future endeavours.He further threw light on the importance of voting rights and asked the students to get enrolled in the voter list.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad Nodal Officer SVEEP.
Other faculty members present in the rally were Prof Chander Parkash HoD History, Prof Ajeet Kumar HoD EVS, Prof Chering Dorjee HoD Education, Dr Muddasser Nazar HoD Persian, and Dr Shabir Ahmed HoD Political Science.
