Awantipora, Pulwama, Kulgam : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested seven drug peddlers in a series of actions across Kashmir valley and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Wednesday police said that in Awantipora a police party from PS Pampore headed by SHO PS Pampore at a special checkpoint established at Patalbagh Pampore on a specific information intercepted 02 suspicious persons identified as Adil Mir @ Magarmach son of Bashir Ahmad Mir and Adil Ahmad Bhat @ Gabru son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Litterbal Pampore and upon checking recovered 4Kgs of grinded cannabis from their possession. Police in it’s statement further said that in Kulgam, a police party of PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Chatabal Crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number PB10GZ-3462 and upon checking recovered 2 gunny bags containing 17 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance from the possession of Bidh Singh son of Balbir Singh resident of Ludhiana Punjab (Driver) and Manjeet Singh son of Nirmal Singh resident of Nawa Shahar Punjab.
Stating further that in a similar action at another checkpoint established at Yamrach a police party of PS Behibagh intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05-7926 driven by Imtiyaz Ahmad Palla son of Abdul AhadPalla resident of Reban, Shopian and upon checking recovered 16 Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance concealed in a gunny bag.
Police further in it’s above referred statement also said that in Pulwama, on a tip-off, a police party of PS Rajpora at a surprise checkpoint established at Checki Badri Nath Rajpora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK01V-9211 with two persons on board identified as Javid Ahmad Matoo son of Wali Mohd Matoo & Nisar Ahmad Das son of Ahmadullah Das, both residents of Bijbehara, Anantnag and upon checking recovered 6 kg of poppy straw from the vehicle.
“All the drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody”, reads the above quoted police statement, adding that “ vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized and cases under relevant sections of law stand registered at respective police stations and investigation have been initiated”.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
