Srinagar|March,23 : Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Wednesday has urged   Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to announce 300 units free power to  consumers in Jammu & Kashmir on the pattern of  several other states  and UT Governments of the country . He said  after installing smart meters in twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu, the consumers deserve some relief in the form of free electricity .
Speaking to various deputations during his two days visit to Khansahib constituency in central Kashmir Budgam , Hakeem demanded 300 units of electricity free to the consumers of smart cities of Jammu and Kashmir after installation of smart meters there   as has been announced by state governments of Punjab, Delhi and many state and UT Governments in the country  .  He also opposed the proposal of  pre-paid system of billing stating therein that it goes against the spirit of power stability in the already existing unstable power distribution system and demanded post paid system of payment for getting power supply . He said people of Jammu & Kashmir deserve more free power than the consumers of other states and union territories in view it’s   high hydro power potential which  consequently
contributes  in strengthening the Northern power grid. Opposing the pre-paid system of billing for getting power supply , Hakeem Yaseen said that only post paid system of billing would be viable for the consumers . He said the pre-paid system of billing would further disturb the power stability of consumers in the already existing unstable power distribution system .He also demand free power for the consumers availing ration under BPL category.
Hakeem assured the people that thier demand for augmenting drinking water facilities and health care system would be pursued at the highest level of the government .’I urge LG Manoj Sinha to issue orders for starting construction of mini hydro power projects on Nalla Sulhnag and Nalla Shaliganga as early as possible’,he said adding that ‘these two proposed power projects were pivotal for socio – economic transformation of district Budgam especially entire Khansahib constituency’ .
