The travel and tourism sector worst hit by three years of pandemic saw people in huge numbers loosing jobs than any other sector of economy and keeping in view the fact the tourism stands at the centre of economy in Jammu & Kashmir the right time to revive the tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir has come ahead of the commencement of the peak tourist season in Kashmir valley. With the reducing intensity in the third wave of the pandemic Jammu & Kashmir tourism department is intensifying it’s preparedness for the commencing tourist season in Kashmir valley but any initiative of the government for promotion of tourist activities requires the cooperation of the stakeholders particularly travel operators, houseboat owners and hoteliers who have suffered heaving losses during last three years of pandemic in Jammu & Kashmir particularly Kashmir valley. Since the current scenario in Kashmir is conducive for fresh tourism arrivals in Jammu & Kashmir, the restoration of tourist activities won’t be obviously as big a challenge as it was during the reign of popular governments of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state. Keeping in view the fact that tourism in Kashmir is more about tourist facilities than the tourist arrivals, the onus of improving the tourist facilities lies more on travel operators, houseboat owners, hoteliers and other private players than the government. While the government is improving tourist infrastructure at key tourist spots in both Kashmir valley and Jammu division the private players including the likes of travel operators, houseboat owners and hoteliers are yet begin the works of upgrading facilities for the tourists in Kashmir valley.
Keeping in view the fact that joblessness triggered by pandemic can be reduced unprecedentedly only by the full scale revival of the tourism in Kashmir valley it is imperative for the private players to start a blueprint for their preparedness ahead of the upcoming tourist season in Kashmir valley. Never forget that Kashmir’s economic recovery plans can’t be translated into a reality unless and until private players don’t roll out a plan of their preparedness for the upcoming tourist season in Kashmir.
The preparedness of private players stands at the centre of all the initiatives the tourism department is taking to showcase J&K tourism within and outside the country ahead of the upcoming tourist season in Kashmir valley and as such the preparedness of the private players including the likes of travel operators, houseboat owners and hoteliers is more important for the revival of tourism than that of the tourism department in both Kashmir valley and as well as Jammu division.
