GDC Udhampur organises Hands on Training, Orientation Workshop on ‘Career & Opportunities in Agriculture’

Udhampur| The Career Counselling Cell and IQAC of the Government Degree College Udhampur, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, on Tuesday organised a workshop under the aegis of Shikshit and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Principal of the College, Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma was the chief guest, while Sanjay Anand, Chief Agriculture Officer Udhampur and Dr. Alok Pandotra (DAO Extension) were the special guests on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest congratulated the organising team and also stressed for adopting the scientific techniques in agriculture. He also greeted the young Agri-entrepreneurs of District Udhampur invited on the occasion.
The programme was organized in two parts. In the first session, the resource person Dr. Harjeet Singh – Agriculture Officer Udhampur made an impressive and detailed presentation on career and opportunities in Agriculture by adopting new scientific techniques. He educated the students about more than 200 varieties of organic vegetables that could be grown with new agri techniques. The present students and staff interacted with the resource person after the lecture. It was followed by Hands on Training Cum Demonstration in College Vatika of the various steps and techniques of growing seed plants, exhibition of varieties of mushrooms, 20 varieties of honey and different vegetables by the Agri-preneurs of Udhampur from Tikri, Neeli Nallah and Main City supported by the agriculture staff of the district.
Earlier, Dr. Manisha Kohli (Convener Career Counselling) formally welcomed all the guests and participants and also introduced the speaker and the nature of the programme.
The programme ended with felicitation of the guests and the agriculture entrepreneurs namely Anjana, Reva Devi, Pooja and Jyoti from Nari Shakti Krishi SHG (Pickles), Surinder Sharma (Lemon Grass and Value Added Products), siblings Jyoti and Jugal along with Vimla Devi and Anju Samaliya (Varieties of Mushroom). On the occasion the revolutionary officer’s viz. Sunil Gupta for Mushroom and Vinod Gupta for Bee Keeping were also felicitated.
Technical Coordination was provided by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Dr.Vipul Chalotra, Prof. Kaku Ram, Dr. Ridhi Sharma, Dr. Pallavi Bhagat and the executives of the college student council. The programme was organized and coordinated by Dr. Pankaj Sharma (Hub Coordinator Agriculture Technology).
Among others, Prof. Romesh Atri, Prof. Satish Kumar, Prof. Kamal Kishore, besides staff members from Department of Sciences and Humanities and NCC, NSS, students of the College were present.
The vote of thanks was presented by Prof.Gurvinder Raj Verma, Convener IQAC.
