Srinagar, New Delhi: In a significant development, the delimitation commission on Monday published the proposals for delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies of Jammu & Kashmir to seek feedback from different stakeholders before finalizing them
The delimitation panel headed by former Supreme Court Judge, Justice (retd.) Ranjana Desai has published the proposals in the gazette of India and the gazette of J&K, together with the dissenting notes submitted by members of parliament (MPs) from National Conference and Bharatiya Janta Party.
The commission has asked the general public to submit their objections/suggestions by or before March 21.
“Any objections and suggestions to the proposals should reach the Secretary, Delimitation Commission, Ashoka Hotel, 50-B, Niti Marg, Chankyapuri, New Delhi-110021 on or before 1700 hrs on 21st March, 2022 (Monday),” reads the notice.
The copies of the gazette are available for reference with the chief electoral Officer, Jammu & Kashmir and the election officials in all the districts of J&K.
As per the notice, the objections/suggestions will be considered by the Commission in public sittings in J&K on 28.03.2022 and 29.03.2022.
“Location and timings of the aforesaid hearings will be notified separately,” the notice states.
According to officials, the panel is expected to come up with its final order in April, which would be followed by announcement of special summary revision of electoral rolls by the poll-body.
Sources said that elections for Jammu & Kashmir Assembly are expected to be held in October- November this year.
It is worthwhile to mention that Jammu and Kashmir has been without an elected government since June 2018 after BJP withdrew support to Mehbooba Mufti-led government citing “deteriorating security situation” in the state
