Fire-fighting and Fire Safety measures seminar held at Shopian

Shopian : The District Disaster Management Shopian in collaboration with Fire and Emergency Services Thursday organised a disaster drill programme at District Hospital Shopian for doing an excellent work during any fire incident in the hospital.
CMO, Shopian, District Officer, Disaster Management, Shopian, Trainers from Fire and Emergency Services besides health functionaries and other concerned were present.
The initiative taken to generate awareness about fire incidents at the hospitals was greatly appreciated and urged for greater community involvement for ensuring fire safety and focus on fire prevention.
The master trainers imparted training to the health functionaries and said that F&ES, Civil Defence, Homeguards and SDRF are doing exceptional work and implored health functionaries to learn fire-fighting and life-saving skills.
Speaking on the occasion, CMO said that it is important to frame specific solutions for all hazards including Fire because accessibility is an issue.
He appreciated F&ES for doing an excellent work but suggested that in hospitals it becomes a challenge due to the difficult terrain.
He said that Volunteers shall be identified and imparted fire-fighting training so that it strengthens the Community level Disaster Management teams and encourages them to be part of the Disaster management set-up.
Master trainer said that a disaster drill is an exercise in which people simulate the circumstances of a disaster so that they have an opportunity to practice their responses. Such drills are used to identify weak points in a disaster response plan, and to get people familiar with the steps they need to take so that their response in a disaster will be automatic.
