Kupwara, Ang : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kupwara and Anantnag and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday police said that based on specific inputs about drug peddling, a police party led by SHO Police Station Kupwara along with In-charge Police Post Kandi under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Rashid Younus at a checkpoint established at Radbugh in presence of concerned Magistrate intercepted a person identified as Showkat Ahmad Rather son of Gh Ahmad Rather resident of Kawari who tried to: escape from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party and upon checking, officers recovered 1kg of Charas from his possession.
Stating that the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police in it’s statement said during preliminary investigations the accused revealed that he was on way to sell the narcotics in small quantities among the youth of Kupwara.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation in the case to unearth this drugs syndicate has been initiated”, reads the police statement, adding that “ in another action Police Station Bijbehara received a specific information about two persons namely Farooq Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar and Shakeel Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Maqbool Dar both residents of Tulkhan Bijbehara indulging in peddling of narcotic substances and hoarding of narcotic substances in the Cowshed of Farooq Ahmad Dar”.
Stating that a case under relevant sections of law was registered in police Station Bijbehara and investigation was taken up, police in it’s statement further said that on receiving this information, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara alongwtih Magistrate concerned raided the specific spot and upon checking about 700 grms of Charas Powder and 500 grms of Charas were recovered from the Cowshed, stating therein further that both the accused persons were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Further investigation in the case is going on.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
