Udhampur: Bio Diversity Management Committee elects Chairperson, Secretary

Udhampur : A formal meeting of the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) constituted at District Level was held Wednesday in the office chamber of Chairperson District Development Council Udhampur Lal Chand.

The meeting was attended by the members nominated in the committee by District Development Council Udhampur and Divisional Forest Officer Udhampur. The members of the committee are Rajinder Kumar Sharma (Social Activist), Babli Devi (Social Activist), Pinki Devi (DDC Latti Marothi), and Dr. Durga Dass Dogra (Retd. Chief Animal Husbandry Officer), Mool Raj (DDC Ramnagar-I), Brij Vallabh Gupta (Chief Horticulutre Officer Reasi), Dr. Sumer Chand Khajuria (Advocate & Social Activist).

At the outset, the members of the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) unanimously elected Rajinder Kumar Sharma (Social Activist) and Dr. Sumer Chand Khajuria (Advocate & Social Activist) as Chairman and Secretary, respectively.

Divisional Forest Officer, Udhampur briefed the Chairperson and Members of Committee about the committee formation and its functioning. The DFO elaborated the role of Bio Diversity Management Committee and said it has to work for promoting conservation, maintaining sustainable use and documentation of all forms of Bio Diversity including preservation of habitats, conservation of water bodies, land races ,folk varieties, cultivars as well as domesticated life stock, breed animals, innovative application of microorganism traditions of sacred grooves, worshiping, preserving old age religious/ cultural practices by various ethnic communities including preservation of heritage sites and regulation of access to the biological resources and /or associated traditional knowledge, for commercial and research purposes.

The DFO Udhampur added that the Biodiversity Management Committee can play a major role in the conservation of biodiversity and the enhancement of flora and fauna in the Udhampur district.

Elected Chairman of the newly constituted Biodiversity Management Committee thanked the District Development Council Udhampur and Chairperson District Development Council Udhampur for providing him with an opportunity to serve, He assured to work with full dedication along with other Committee Members to meet the objectives of the Committee .

Chairperson District Development Council Udhampur Lal Chand congratulated the newly elected Chairman and other committee members and offer them with best wishes in the hope that they will work diligently to respect the motto of the BDMC on conserving Bio Diversity and our environment.
