Bandipora : The Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Bandipora, Abdul Gani on Wednesday chaired a function at BDO Office Bandipora in connection with the celebration of International Womens Day.
Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Ali Afsar Khan, Member DDC Dr Mustafa, Assistant Commissioner Development Ab Rashid Dass, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Syed Altaf Mosvi, BDO and other officers were present on the occasion.
The function was organised to felicitate and honour the female mates under MGNREGA. A good number of Women were given certificates of appreciation along with mementos.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC Chairman highlighted the role of women in nation building. He also threw light on the rights of women and discussed various centrally sponsored women centric welfare schemes that are aimed at providing hand-holding to the women to make them self-reliant and urged the female folk to avail benefit of these schemes.
He highlighted the role of Panchayat Raj Institutions in creating awareness about these schemes at grassroots level so that more females are empowered by these schemes. He said the economically independent women is the first major step towards empowerment of women and urged the females to avail benefit of schemes aimed for establishing their own income generating unit.
ADDC said that it is not the day just to commemorate the achievements of women but to analyze and diagnose the reasons behind the helplessness of women in the society and asked for changing age old notions by bringing the social re-orientation in addition to bringing their economic and political upliftment.
He while seeking support of PRI in creating awareness regarding women specific schemes, assured full support from district administration in implementation of these schemes. He also highlighted various steps taken by the district administration towards women empowerment.
