Deptt of Islamic Studies BGSBU holds workshop on Int’l Women’s Day

Rajouri : On the occasion of International Women’s Day celebrated throughout world on 8th March, Department of Islamic Studies, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri organized the Two Day Workshop under the theme “Contemporary Discourse on Hijab” on this very day. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Prof. Akbar Masood congratulated the Department for conducting such relevant programme.Dr. Naseem Gul (Coordinator, Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU) while welcoming the guests highlighted the relevance of the Two Day Workshop. Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum (Associate Dean, School of Islamic Studies & languages, BGSBU) presided the programme and highlighted the importance of the Two Day Workshop. The Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. G. M. Malik (Dean, School of Education BGSBU) deliberated upon the significance of the programme and highlighted the issues faced by the contemporary woman and their possible solutions. The resource persons of the programme include: Prof. Hamidullah Marazi (Director, International Centre for Spiritual Studies, IUST). Prof. Marazi explored the importance of hijab in Islamic perspective and asserted that hijab is recognised in other religions of the world as well. Dr. Sartaj Ahmad Sofi (Faculty Member, Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU) emphasised on the rereading of the basic Islamic scriptures in order to clarify the misconceptions about Islam. Dr. Abida Qausar (Head, Department of Islamic Studies, GDC Sopore) focussed on Islamic concept of human rights especially women rights. Moreover, she underscored the status guaranteed to women by the Qur’an and Sunnah. The last speaker of the programme Dr. Zaira Ashraf (Head, Department of Islamic Studies, GDC Pulwama) highlighted the feminist perspective and Islamic approach on women rights. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Rafiq Anjum (Assistant Professor, Department of Islamic Studies, BGSBU). The programme was attended by the faculty members, research scholars, and students within and outside the University both in offline and online mode.
