Pulwama : An awareness-cum-registration programme on Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan Dhan (PM-SYM), a pension scheme for unorganized workers was Wednesday held at different Cement Factories of Pulwama district.
The programme was presided over by Nowshad Ahmad, Labour Inspector along with other concerned.
Speaking on the occasion, the Labour Inspector said that the pension scheme would go a long way in ensuring financial security to a large number of people engaged in the unorganized sector.
He said that the scheme would provide security to both workers and their families and stressed on the need to create mass awareness about this scheme so that a large number of people get benefited from it.
Ahmad said that once the beneficiary joins the scheme at the entry age of 18-40 years, the beneficiary has to contribute till 60 years of age and on attaining the age of 60 years, the subscriber will get the assured monthly pension of Rs 3,000 per month with benefit of family pension, as the case may be.
He also asked the subscribers to visit the Common Service Centre (CSC) with an Aadhaar number and a savings bank account number to get enrolled in the scheme. The registration process is going on in full swing across the district Common Service Centres.
He further added that the scheme would cover unorganized workers who were working or engaged as home-based workers, street vendors, mid-day meal workers, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, rag pickers, domestic workers, washermen, rickshaw pullers, landless laborers, agricultural workers, and construction workers, among others.
