SKUASTs’ Krishi Mela witnesses overwhelming participation of farmers

Jammu  : The second day of Krishi Mela-2022, being organized by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, witnessed an overwhelming participation of enthusiastic farmers who throng the mega event from different parts of the region.
The day presented a grand flower, fruit and vegetable show, which was organized by the Vegetable Science and Floriculture division, SKUAST.
During the event, entries were invited from private, public and government agencies and about eight categories of flowers, three categories of fruits and six categories of vegetables were registered which recorded 600 entries.
SanjeevVerma, Principle Secretary Forest and Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board were the chief guests on the occasion.
SanjeevVerma exhorted upon the University to collaborate with the department for organizing trainings and workshops on theme of conserving the biodiversity of our UT. He urged the scientists to come up with clear road map for identification of exotic and precious flora and fauna of J&K.
The show was supported by IIIM, Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, RBI Bahu Plaza, Flower Development Nursery, Vegetable Improvement Scheme, TalabTillo Jammu, APS School Damana and JK Police Public School.
Meanwhile, Professor J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, was the chief guest during the valedictory function of civil defence training programme held at SKUAST Jammu in collaboration with NAHEP-IDP and Civil Defence Jammu.
Dr Sumati Sharma, Additional Director, DRDO, was the guest of honour on the occasion. Special Guest Ms. Anita Pawar, DSP Deputy Controller said to the students not to keep this knowledge with themselves but also to share it with the family members and friends.
Similarly, the University organized one day farmer awareness programme in collaboration with India Meteorology Department during the KrishiMela.
Vice Chancellor, Professor J P Sharma was the chief guest while Director Agriculture, KK Sharma and Director Horticulture, Ram Sewak were the guests of honour.
About 100 farmers from Jammu and Samba districts participated in the program where fruit plants were distributed among the farmers.
Dr Mahender Singh, Senior Scientist and InchargeAgrometeorology narrated the impact of climate change on crops.
During the KrishiMela, workshop on micro irrigation in floriculture, bee-keeping conference, celebration of women’s day and KisanGhosti were also held.
During the workshop, progressive farmers shared their views and experiences. Besides, Sewa Bharti, Jammu, organized an exhibition on application of drone technology in agriculture and cultural programmes.
A large number of farmers, school children and university students enthusiastically participated in rural sports and were awarded with prizes.
