Bhaderwah : An awarenesscamp under ‘de-addiction campaign’ was Thursday organised by tehsil Social Welfare office Bhaderwahhere at DakBungalow which witnessed participation of PRIs and local people. Chairman Block Development Council Omi Chand was the Chief Guest and Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhadarwah Chowdhury Dil Mir was the guest of honour.
The program was organised by the social welfare department as part of the National Campaign of the Ministry of Social welfare and Empowerment aimed at reducing drug demand and its abuse.
In J&K, the ministry has identified 10 districts for the campaign including Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu division. The objectives of the campaign are to increase community participation and sensitization of the people vulnerable to drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, the BDC chairman and ADC Bhadarwah threw light on the NDPS Act 1985. They informed that manufacturing, sale, purchase, consumption, storage ofnarcotic drugs is prohibited under this Act.
The ADC also educated the participants about the ill effects of drug abuse and laid emphasis on the public to come forward to identify the perpetrators.
DDC member, Thakur Yudhveer Singh and other officers including ASP Bhadarwah Mohammad Aftab Mir, while speaking on the occasion, appealed to the people to keep close vigil on their wards so that they may not get involved in this life threatening habit.
Local NGOs including Youth Action Committee Bhadarwah and Umar Education Trust also participated and spoke on the occasion.
