Few days ago result of 10th class was declared by JK Board of School Education (BOSE))for Kashmir division. Students performed exceedingly well with a total passing percentage of 78 percent. As many as 19 students scored 500 out of 500. Similarly, 499 marks was bagged by 24students and 44 students scored 498 marks.8139 students got A1 grade and 11077 A2. While many people applaud students for the splendid performance in the examination, yet many are subjecting them to taunts. They are being taunted by attributing their outstanding performance to JKBOSE’S soft marking. People claim every run-of-the-mill student passed the examination with distinctions just because soft evaluation by the JK State Board Of School Education (BOSE). People aretaking to social media in bewilderment how19 students got 500 out of 500 marks? Without mulling much on it, they conclude JKBOSE’s soft evaluation to be the sole reason behind this result. Elderly peopleaver that matriculation examination of their time was very difficult. After much moil anyone hardly managed to pass the examination. Distinction in matriculation was secured by some student once in blue moon. They should understand students of contemporary world have many facilities at their disposal which people earlier lacked. They have access to internet, best teachers and extra classes at their hand, which makes the privilegedthantheir elders. However, these facilities alone are unavailing without consistency, determination and handwork. Now a days everyone around is saying “ JKBOSE SHO SARNEA DEWA FATIW FATIW MARKS”( Jkbose is gracing everyone with ginormous percentage ) and “SAANI WAQTO OOS DEHMEHUND EXAM MAHAL PASSS KARUN, TOA TREA HUTH MARKS AANHEY KHAAL KAH AKHA”( Passing matriculation examination at our time was a herculean task and only one among hundreds could secure distinction). Amid this ambience, the students who worked hard throughout the year, burned their midnight oil and came with flying colours in the examination get disappointed. Even after scoring exceedingly well in the examination, the students as sick as parrot. They are not disappointed with the marks the secured, but the discouragement and these pesky comments. One should understand while 19 students scored hundred percent marks in their examination at the same time 15660 flunked the examination. This is pointer towards the fact that is only handwork which made success kiss their foot. If the examination was so easy then why 15660 failed in the examination?
The standard and typicality of the examination remains same , as it used to be earlier. In fact , nothing has changed, except competition. Students of present time have became more hardworking and competitive. The efforts it required ten years ago to score hundred percent marks in the examination are evenly same today. Many people find another way to discourage the students. They go one step further and say students secure high percentage because of the syllabus reduction in the examination.True it is that from last few years students are given relaxation in the syllabus because of outbreak of virulent virus. But let me make it very clear, while relaxation eases their task ,but the loss they have to suffer because of suspension of offline classwork is much greater. So instead of taunting and miming our students, we should appreciate them . Despite the depressing situation created by legal pandemic they managed to work hard score good marks. They deserve as well as need the appreciation from us. As the famous saying of H. Jackson Brown Jr goes “ don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need isto feel appreciated. “Our students need appreciation, for appreciation is key to success. Appreciation can turn fiasco into success. Even for small accomplishments we should appreciate. One should never speak discouraging language, because It relegates brilliance to just average. We must appreciate our children, because it will make their accomplishments certain. Those who performed well in the examination we need to appreciate them. If they secured hundred percent marks in the examination, it clearly reflects their hard work , consistency and determination. Those who performed poor we should not declare them deadwood. Let me tell them, don’t loose your heart. A single examination can’t decide your ability.
