5 drug peddlers arrested in Sopore & Kulgam, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Sopore, Kulgam : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore & Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said that Police Party led by SHO PS Bomai under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Sopore Furqan Qadir at a checkpoint established at Zindri Crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK04D-7480 with two persons on board and upon checking, officers recovered 144 tablets of Spasmoproxyvon Plus from their possession, stating therein further that the accused have been identified as Basit Ahmad Lone and Mudasir Ahmad Ganie both residents of Tujjar Sopore.
Stating further in another similar action in Kulgam, three drug peddlers were also arrested in two separate actions, police in it’s above referred statement said that Police party of PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Nippora intercepted two persons identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Sadoora Qazigund and a lady (name withheld) and recovered 5Kgs of Poppy Straw and 4gms of Brown sugar from their possession.
“Similarly in another action, officers from Police Station Qazigund intercepted a person during naka checking at Dalwach identified as Javid Ahmad Dar@Jaani son of Mohammad Shaban Dar resident of Berigam and upon checking, officers recovered 4kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession” reads the above quoted police statement, adding that “all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody”. Police in it’s statement also said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, stating therein further that accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
