GCW Udhampur hosts friendly Volleyball match

Udhampur : Department of Sports, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur Friday organised a friendly cum demonstration Volleyball match between the students’ and staff members teams with due adherence to Covid SOPs.
Principal of the college, Prof. Minu Mahajan was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Minu Mahajan lauded the efforts of Dr Dinesh Kumar, Physical Director in smoothly organizing & coordinating the match in short time. She welcomed the gathering of the students in the college again after Covid-19 outbreak and further said that the students are the soul of our institutions and was also of huge praise for the spirit of the staff members in playing and performing outstandingly.
In a nail-biting finish students team snatched a marginal victory by 2-1 in the best of three sets played. Whereas staff members in the captainship of Binny Kumar also displayed an exemplary performance and sportsman-spirit with the noted performance came from Arun Gupta, Dr Mool Raj, Dr Sumit Sharma & Dr Mushtaq Ahmed. Whereas student’s team under the leadership of Anjali Sharma fought till the end to steal a well deserved victory after losing the first set by 29-27 and then winning the 2nd & 3rd set consecutively by 25-23 & 31-29 respectively.
Prakriti, Shashi, Shivani & the captain Anjali remained the standout performers for the students’ team. Mohd Yonus and Balbir Singh assisted in the conduct of the match.
Among others present were Head of Department Music, Dr. Seema Sharma, HoD Hindi, Prof. A.K. Raina, HoD Chemistry, Prof. Kewel Kumar, HoD Philosophy, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, HoD Geography, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Assistant Professor, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Professor, Yash Kumar, other senior faculty members and students.
