Adopt strategies to mitigate adverse impact of Climate change on Health: DC B’pora

Bandipora : Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmad Friday inaugurated two day training programme on Climate change and Human Health (CCHH) at Bandipora.
The training programme is aimed to provide basic awareness to Doctors, MLHPs and paramedics regarding the impact of climate change on human health. A handbook for Health professionals on Air Pollution and its impact on Human Health was presented and distributed among the participants.
Dr. Nabeel District Epidemiologist presented inaugural PPT regarding various effects of climate change on Human Health.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner, Dr Owais Ahmad said in case of any health related issues people always believe on Doctors. He said we have to aware people to take care of pollution control measures.
Dr. Owais said it is a welcome step to discuss these issues and many diseases caused by pollution can be controlled by mass awareness. Doctors’ role is important in curbing the menace of pollution and creating awareness among people regarding pollution control, he added.
He said long term good health of the population depends on a pollution free environment.
DC said, climate has a potential to affect the health status of the population and existing surveillance system like IDSP can be used for disease related data capture and affects can be lessened by conducting mass awareness.
DC said, climate change is a major challenge we are facing Friday and Human health has always been influenced by climate change.
He said, Climate change together with other natural and human made health stressors threaten human health and well being in numerous ways. He stressed on adopting strategies formulated by Govt. for mitigation, containing and managing the adverse impact of Climate change on Health.
Speaking on the occasion CMO Bandipora Dr Bashir Ahmad Khan said, as medical professionals we have to learn the changing impact of the environment on health and such seminars and training sessions are pivotal for creating awareness. He also throw light on rules and regulations related to affect of climate change on human health.
Speaking on the occasion Senior physician Specialist Dr. Parvaiz Sajad who was also Master trainer of the programme said, climate change is an emergency and is different from other emergencies as it is concerned with the whole populace not with a single person. He said as medics we can provide health advice to individuals and can inform communities regarding effects of Climate changes on Health.
Medical Superintendent Mushtaq Ahmad sheikh, Doctors, MLHPs officials from IDSP participated in the training session.
