Jammu : Government College for Women Parade, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, hosted Virtual District (Jammu) Youth Festival here today.
The event was held under the patronage of college Principal Dr. S.P Sarswat and the guidance of Dr. Mohd. Majeed (HOD, Urdu Department), Dr. Gurpreet Kour (Assistant Professor, Chemistry, Organising Secretary of the event), Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed (Assistant Professor, Zoology), NSS Program Officers GCW Parade (members of the organising committee) and Nisar Ahmed Bhut (Deputy Director) Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Jammu, (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India).
The District Youth Parliament was held with the objective to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate healthy habits of discipline, tolerance of the view of others and to enable the student community to know about practices and procedures of the parliament. The Parliament was held via online mode of conduction, on the social media platform of Cisco WebEx meeting app. The NSS Volunteers and the student bodies of all colleges of District Jammu and Samba participated. The programme was also live streamed on the official YouTube page of GCW Parade Ground Jammu, where a large number of viewership was recorded.
The event started with a formal welcome address by Dr S.P Sarswat (Principal of GCW Parade Ground Jammu).
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Gurpreet Kour, (Organising Secretary of the event) in a cordial manner. The revered members of the jury were Natasha Kalsotra, Joint Director (Tourism); Tahir Rufayee (Entrepreneur) Start up Consultant, (MD TR Group of Companies); Dr. Saranjit Kour (Faculty) Centre of Women Studies, University of Jammu; Dr. Prof. Meenu Mahajan (Principal, GCW Udhampur) and Dr. Kamna Gorka (State Medical Officer, State Medical Agency, Ayushman Bharat), all veterans in their respective fields.
A total forty students participated in the event and enthusiastically presented and laid out emphasis on their subject topics such as, ‘Skill India’, ‘Incredible India’, ‘Beti Bachao Beti padhao’, “Ayushman Bharat’, ‘Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat’ etc.
The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed (Member of the Organising Committee and NSS Programme Officer of NSS Unit of GCW Parade Ground Jammu).
