Kathua : District Administration today launched a massive crackdown across the district to curb the menace of illegal mining.
On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Rahul Yadav, a team led by District Mineral Officer, Rajinder Singh laid down nakas at various locations of the district.
The team seized 1 excavator involved in illegal mining and 3 vehicles carrying sand and Bajri without valid documents from Bhini and Ujh Nallahs of Billawar areas. It was an entire day’s exercise and all the seized vehicles were handed over to the police and shall be released only after recovering the penalty.
The teams also checked the enforcement of notified rates of minor minerals at the locations of stone crushers and mineral blocks and advised consumers to purchase minerals from legal sources only and stay away from illegal mining.
Pertinently, the exercise was in continuance to administration’s tough stand against defaulters.
Moreover, the general public was appealed to inform the Mineral Department in case of any issue pertaining to mining in the areas, exorbitant rates etc and immediately report to the District Administration about any forceful action and violation of mining rules under MM(D&R) Act-1957 and SRO -105.
