Awantipora, Handwara, G’bal | Feb, 14 : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Ganderbal, Awantipora &Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Monday police said that a Police party from PS Kheerbawani at a checkpoint established at Shallabugh intercepted a suspicious person and identified him as Umar Rashid Laway son of Ab Rashid resident of Shallabugh Ganderbal .
Police in it’s statement further said that during checking officers recovered 3.7 Kgs of crushed Cannabis from the possession of the above named accused who has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
Stating further that in yet another similar action in Awantipora, a police party from PS Pampore at a checkpoint established at Kadlabal Pampore intercepted a suspicious person and identified him as Mohd Ayoub Akhoon son of Bashir Ahmad Akhoon resident of Tulbagh Pampore , police in it’s statement further said that officers recovered 5.7 grams (suspected to be Heroin) from his possession following which he was arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement also said in yet another similar action in Handwara, 4kgs of cannabis were recovered during a search operation launched by police parties of PP & PC Langate in Village GulooraLangate. “The contraband substance was found concealed in a suspicious bag in the shop of Mohd Akbar Malik son of Mohd Abdulla Malik resident of Guloora”, reads the police statement, adding that “the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective Police Station and further investigation has been initiated, police in the concluding para of it’s statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
