1 Day training cum demonstration prog on hydroponics held at Udhampur

Udhampur  : A one day Training Cum Demonstration Programme on vegetable cultivation through hydroponics was Saturday conducted by Agriculture Department Udhampur, here under the Chairmanship of Chief Agriculture Officer Sanjay Anand.
In the training program, Scientist Dr. Gurdev Chand I/c Head & principal investigator, Division of Plant Physiology SKUAST Jammu was the resource person.
He deliberated on Israel based technology for the cultivation, prospectus & its importance in Udhampur district on its first ever launch at the district.
Further, he demonstrated that there are three ways of hydroponics i.e’ NFT, DFT & Drip System. This system will work more under controlled Conditions. He added that it is for the first time that Udhampur district is going to introduce Vertical gardening & hydroponics preferably in urban areas.
During the training program, an exhaustive Powerpoint Presentation besides the practical demonstration was also given which was followed by an interactive session. Moreover Dr. Gurdev also briefed about its implication & its usages in Saturday’s scenario related to Water use Efficiency.
While briefing the participants, the CAO informed that district Udhampur is proceeding towards precision / smart agriculture in order to promote the vegetable ,Fodder etc through hydroponics by 95 % WUE as well as fertigation through water as a medium. He reiterated that this concept is fully organic based and Udhampur district became the first who is moving ahead with all Urban / vertical farming through hydroponics. He also threw light on a rafting model of hydroponics that has been displayed for the proper usage of water bodies.
He said that while using the available resources at rural level is aimed at meeting the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to double the Farmer’s income, this concept will boost not only the economy but also usher a new era in the urban areas of Agriculture.
Later, SMS (DL), Sukhbir Singh presented the vote of thanks to Gurdev Chand Sr. Scientist SKUAST,Jammu.
Among others present were District Officers, Alok Pandotra , B. K Mahajan ADO ( Veg.), Sukhbir Singh SMS ( DL) , Bharti Thussoo SMS (DL) along with AEO’s & other Field Officers.
