World Unani Day’ celebrated across Kashmir

Srinagar  : On the eve of ‘World Unani Day’ celebrated every year on February 11, a daylong program was Friday organised at Ganderbal and Shopian districts.The Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of “Hakim Ajmal Khan”, an eminent Indian Unani physician. The main objective of the day is to spread awareness among masses about healthcare delivery by the Unani system of medicine worldwide through its preventive and curative philosophy.
At Kupwara, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Imam Din Friday stressed the need for further elevation and expansion of Unani and Ayush treatment in district Kupwara so that more and more people could get treatment facilities. The DC said this during an impressive function organised on the eve of ‘World Unani Day’, by Ayush Kupwara, here. He added that the objective of observing World Unani Day is to generate awareness among the people and other stakeholders so that more people could be benefited. He asked the Ayush medical officers to initiate a public awareness campaign in the district, especially in far flung and hilly areas of the district so that these people could get benefitted from the Ayush treatment. On the occasion, District Ayush Officer highlighted the achievements and role of the department through a powerpoint presentation. The Chief Medical Officer and Chief Education Officer also spoke on the occasion. Later, the DC distributed the Certificate of Appreciation among the health workers who worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The function was attended by various doctors and medical officers of Ayush and Health department Kupwara.
At Kulgam, a daylong seminar cum awareness programme was Friday organised at Resthouse here to celebrate ‘World Unani Day’ with a theme, the ‘Unani Medicine for Good Health and Well Being’ by AYUSH Department Kulgam. The daylong programme was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat and was attended by ADC, Showkat Ahmad Rather, District Nodal Officer AYUSH, Dr.Abdul-Rehman, MS District Hospital Kulgam, Dr Muzaffar Ahamd, Doctors and Para Medical staff from AYUSH Department Kulgam. On the occasion, the DC stressed the concerned to raise awareness among masses about the Unani system of medicine. He also complimented AYUSH Department Kulgam for their role to tackle and contain the spread of COVID-19. During this function, the speakers from AYUSH Department highlighted objectives and historical background of this day and added that the day is celebrated on the birthday of visionary scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan who has contributed to the development of the Unani system of Medicine. Nodal Officer AYUSH, Kulgam also highlighted the achievements of AYUSH unit Kulgam.
At Bandipora, Indian System of Medicine (AYUSH), Bandipora Friday organized a seminar to celebrate 6th World Unani Day at Mini Secretariat Bandipora. The function was attended by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad as chief guest and Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Officer ISM Dr Reyaz and other senior officers of the district. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC highlighted the popularity, importance and effectiveness of alternative medicines especially Unani medicine. He appreciated the efforts of ISM in fighting covid and said that the doctors and other medical staff of ISM has been on the front to fight the pandemic and distributed immunity boosters both among local people and government employees besides police, security forces and other covid warriors. He said the District Administration has been committed to uplift the infrastructure of ISM at grassroots levels. Dr Owais said several health and wellness centres have been established in various Panchayats that are playing a key role in providing healthcare services in villages besides helping to keep people healthy by counseling them for living a healthy lifestyle and taking preventive measures before getting ill. He stressed to carry on intense outreaches to reach the unreachable, fight the drug abuse and to promote cultivation of herbal medicines. He promised all support to provide land at diff places for cultivation and showcasing herbal medicines District Officer ISM, provided the historical background of World Unani day. He said ISM is the system of medicine which aims to assist people to live healthy. He said Ayush dispensaries are upgraded to Ayush wellness centers comprising of yoga halls and herbal gardens and thanked Deputy Commissioner for lending support to establish these centres Dr Nazir Ahmad and two pharmacists namely Masood Ahmad Parsa and Manzoor Ahmad Zargar were felicitated with mementos for their outstanding role in promoting Ayush in Bandipora.
At Ganderbal, the Ayush Department organised a function to celebrate the 6th ‘World Unani Day’ at Bamloora here. The function was inaugurated by District Nodal Officer Ayush Ganderbal, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Payer and he highlighted the incredible contribution of Hakeem Ajmal Khan in the field of Unani medicine. Dr. Syed Riyaz Rizvi, Dr. Aabid Qadri, Dr. Sabia jan and Dr. Sahiba Mushtaq also spoke on the occasion and it was pledged that Ayush Ganderbal will leave no stone unturned for making Unani pathy as most popular treatment system in Ganderbal District. District Nodal Officer appreciated the role of medical and paramedical staff working in far flung areas of Ganderbal and complemented one medical officer namely Dr Saif ul Abrar Wani who is nominated for Hakeem Ajmal Khan Superstar of Unani medicine and pharmacy award from All India Unani Tibbi Congress. He insisted all medical officers to work with added zeal and dedication and contribute in the practice of unani medicine at dispensary level. Medical and paramedical staff besides, other concerned were present in the event.
At Shopian, the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ishrit Ahmad Hakeem, District Nodal officer Ayush Unit, DH Shopian at District Employment and Counselling Centre, here. Dr. Ishrit in his address gave the historical background of the Unani system of medicine and added that it has a long and impressive record in India. He also said that Hakim Ajmal Khan was an eminent Indian Unani physician who was a versatile genius, a great scholar, social reformer, noted freedom fighter, Unani medical educationist and founder of scientific research in Unani System of Medicine. He was one of the founders of the Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi. Dr. Basharat Rashid spoke about the role of diet and nutrition in Unani medicine for health and well being. Dr Gh Nabi highlighted the importance of diet in maintaining health. Dr. Mushtaq highlighted the contribution of Hakeem Ajmal Khan towards Unani medicine and Dr. Mir Manzoor presented his talk over the concept of health and well being in Unani medicine. The program was attended by the doctors, scholars, Senior citizens, traders, district officers, officers and officials of ISM Ayush of Shopian and other concerned.
