Rajouri : District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal Friday chaired a meeting of the District and sectoral officers of the Cooperative Department to review the functioning of the Department and progress achieved under various schemes and Acts.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Mohammad Khurshid, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Antar Singh and other sectoral Officers.
Detailed discussion was held concerning the number of registered Cooperative Society Act, steps taken to revive the defunct cooperative societies, elections of the primary and secondary cooperative societies, number of FPOs constituted and other issues.
The Deputy Registrar cooperative informed that there are a total of 181 cooperative societies in the district under different acts.
“Out of 121 cooperative societies are registered under Cooperative societies Act 1989 and only 46 are functional”, he added.
Regarding the Election to the societies in the district, the DRC informed that currently the election to 42 primary cooperative societies is in progress, while the election to 07 has already been conducted.
The District Development Commissioner Rajouri also reviewed the progress in the constitution of New Cooperative societies and Farmers Produce organisations in the District.
The DRC briefed the chair that 08 Cooperative societies have been revived while two new cooperative societies have been constituted in the district. He further said the proposal of 21 cooperative societies and 11 FPOs have been sent to higher authorities.
He also reiterated that the Department is taking strenuous efforts to constitute 30 more Cooperative societies in the district in this financial year.
The District Development Commissioner also reviewed the criteria for grant of financial assistance to the cooperative societies.
Emphasising the need for revival of the defunct societies, the DDC directed the officers and officials of the department to take innovative and concrete steps in this regard. The DDC also directed for holding elections to the remaining cooperative societies in the district.
