6 drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar  : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in a series of actions in Ganderbal, Kupwara and Bandipora districts and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday police said that in Ganderbal, officers from PS Lar at a checkpoint established at Repora Lar intercepted a suspicious person carrying bags who was identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat @Zadoo son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of ReporaLar Ganderbal .
Stating that during checking, officers recovered 4.8Kgs of Cannabis from the possession of the above named accused who was arrested and shifted to police station, police in it’s above referred statement said that during preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the contraband substance was meant for sale among the youth of the area.
Police in its above statement also said that in yet another incident in Kupwara, a police party of PS Trehgam at a checkpoint established at Trehgam Market arrested three drug peddlers identified as Noorul Hassan Bhagat son of Ab AhadBhagat resident of Bhagat Mohalla Trehgam, Mohd Ashraf Ganai @Ashtar son of Wali Mohammad Ganie and Mohd Aslam Malik son of Wali Mohammad Malik both resident of RamporaHayan.
Stating that during checking, 65grams of Charas have been recovered from their possession, police in it’s statement further said that all the three accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police also said that in yet another similar action in Bandipora, officers from PS Hajin at a checkpoint established at Hajin Bridge arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 150 grams of Charas from their possession. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
