DDC Udhampur reviews implementation of PC & PNDT Act at DAC meet

Udhampur  : District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Indu Kanwal Chib Wednesday chaired a meeting of District Advisory Committee(DAC) to review the implementation of PC& PNDT Act in the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Kanta Devi; Additional SP, Anwar –Ul Haq; District Social Welfare Officer, Nawaz Sharief; MS DH Udhampur Dr Vijay Raina; Consultant Gynecologist Dr Pooja Gupta; Consultant Pediatrician Dr Deepak Kumar; Consultant Radiologist Dr Manisha Langar besides President NGO, ‘Jiyo aur Jeene do’ Tariq Shah.
Threadbare discussions were held on various issues which includes registration & renewal of ultrasound centres, preconception and prenatal diagnostic techniques Act, Regulation of GCC, Labs and Clinics, Offences and penalties, Clinical establishment Act, Provision of registration, Inspection, mechanism for monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act, holding of IEC activities for general awareness etc.
The DDC stressed upon the members to conduct random checking of ultrasound clinics in the district for effective monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act.
Seeking close check on the illegal practice of pre-natal sex determination, the DDC directed the Health Department to conduct frequent inspections of the ultrasound clinics and checking the CCTV recordings of the ultrasound clinics to identify and penalize the defaulters.
The members also discussed the measures to improve the implementation of the Act through organization of awareness programmes by the health department in collaboration with NGOs and legal experts in the monitoring/ inspection of the ultrasound clinics.
