World Cancer Day observed across Kashmir hospitals

Srinagar : The World Cancer Day 2022 was observed across Kashmir hospitals on Friday during which awareness programs were held in the health care institutions.
In his message, Director Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather this year the theme of World Cancer Day is “closing the care gap” and appealed to people to focus on preventive measures.
“We have to make it sure that people of all regions, sections, sects get equitable and affordable treatment at all the places and the government is working on it,” he said.
The director said that it has been seen certain life style changes and habits including cigarette smoking, use of alcohol, Paan, Gutka, etc. which are prevalent in society have contributed to rise in cancer cases.
Dr Mushtaq said that people should strictly avoid these bad habits and have harmful consequences on human health.
“Whenever people feel symptoms or any abnormality in their body, they should report to the nearby hospital where they will be screened for the ailment,” the director said.
He said that NCDs clinics are working across hospitals in the valley where routine screening of various types of cancers is being done.
Meanwhile, World Cancer Day 2022 was observed in all hospitals under the aegis of the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir to spread awareness, education about the disease.
Screening and awareness programs were held in various hospitals including at JLNM Hospital Rainawari, Srinagar where the focus was laid on awareness of the diseases.
Similar programs were also held in other hospitals of the valley where awareness programs and educational programs about cancer management and treatment were discussed and deliberated upon.
Cancer is one of the world’s leading causes of death, and its burden is growing. As per the figures of the World Health Organization, in 2021, the world crossed a sobering new threshold – an estimated 20 million people were diagnosed with cancer, and 10 million died.
