Srinagar: At least six persons were killed in a road accident that took place at Keshwan area in Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Thursday, officials said. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed his anguish over road accident deaths and conveyed his sympathies with the bereaved families. Leaders of several political parties have also expressed shock and grief over the death of six travelers in the road accident besides conveyed their sympathies with the bereaved families
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar Ashok Kumar Sharma said that five people died on the spot while one is being shifted to hospital. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Shafqat Hussain confirmed that the sixth person, who was injured in the accident, has died on the way to the hospital.
According to the officials, a vehicle bearing registration number JK17-5809 skidded off the road and rolled down into the gorge near Nagriana.
Officials said that soon after the incident, locals, police and army men from 26 RR immediately rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue operation during which five persons were found dead on the spot while one was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. However, the injured also succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Latief, son of Sandoo Rather of Nagrigarh, Muhammad Irfan, son of Ghulam Haider Sheikh of Nagrigarh, Atta Muhammad, son of Ghulam Ahmed Butt of Panthna, Abdul Rehman, son of Ghulam Ahmed Butt of Panthna, Ghulam Hassan, son of Ghulam Muhammad Butt of Gamass and Zubair Ahmed, son of Atta Muhammad Hajam of Panthna.
Meanwhile, a case under FIR number 16/22 under section 279/304 IPC has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and investigation has been set into the motion.
Moreover, Lieutenant Governor Manjoj Sinha expressed anguish over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. “Deeply anguished at the loss of precious lives in an unfortunate road accident in Keshwan, Kishtwar. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. (sic),” office of LG J&K tweeted.
Several political party leaders have expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident that took place at Nagra Keshwan in Kishtwar district. National Conference (NC) President & Member Parliament Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have expressed shock and grief over the death of six persons. According to a statement issued by the party on Thursday the duo prayed for peace to the departed and much needed strength to the bereaved to bear the irreparable loss. They also urged the divisional administration of Jammu to reach out to the injured with rescue and medical care. Expressing grief over the accident, Dr Farooq said, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the fatal road accident. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. What is worrying here is the fact that there has been no initiative by the incumbent administration to curb the occurrence of such fatalities.”Omar Abdullah while expressing grief over the deadly accident said, “I pray for peace to departed souls and speedy recovery to injured persons. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families.”
Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari also expressed profound grief over the loss of precious lives in Kishtiwar road accident. Bukhari termed the hapless road accident as extremely unfortunate while raising concerns over the startling increase in the number of road accidents on high-altitude roads. “The administration must ensure that the vehicle drivers strictly follow the requisite traffic schedules and guidelines in letter and spirit so that such heart-rending mishaps can be positively avoided,” he said. Bukhari also demanded a thorough investigation with regards to the abnormal spike in such accidents that pose a great threat to the lives of commuters besides constituting special checking squads at these roads whose presence will further strengthen the necessary road safety. “He appeals to the Lt. Governor-led administration to take appropriate measures with regard to maintaining the safety of passengers to avoid further loss of human lives,” he stressed. Bukhari also demanded an adequate ex gratia for the bereaved families at an earliest. He prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured
