Jammu : National Service Scheme Unit of Government College for Women Parade Ground, in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences of the college and under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav organised an online event to commemorate World Wetlands Day.
The event was held under the patronage of the college Principal Dr. S.P Sarswat and the guidance of Dr. Mohammad Majeed (HOD, Urdu Department), Dr. Gurpreet Kour (Assistant Professor, Chemistry) and Dr. Pervaiz Ahmed (Assistant Professor, Zoology) NSS Program Officers GCW Parade and Dr Priyadarshini (HOD, EVS Department), to commemorate “World Wetlands Day” which is observed on February 2nd, every year all around the globe.
The event was felicitated via online mode of conduction, where NSS Volunteers and the student body of college participated in activities such as Essay Writing Competition, Plantation Drive, and Awareness programme via Poster and slogan making activity.
More than 500 entries were registered for the event including all the streams and semesters. Dr. Priyadarshini commenced the event with an opening speech to address all the participants of the event.
The first activity of the event was essay writing on the topic “Wetlands action for People and Nature”, this activity was designed to apprise the students of the importance of Wetlands for our ecosystem. The second activity of the event was poster and slogan making on the theme, “Wetlands Conservation”. NSS Volunteers, also ade a short documentary film on “How Plastic is destroying our Local Wetlands” where the confronted the ever rising dangers and the exploitations of Wetlands. Around 50 volunteers participated in the Plantation Drive, where they planted saplings around their localities.
The volunteers also held discussion on how we can preserve our wetlands for the future generations. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Gurpreet Kour.
