Amid an intensifying debate over the restoration and revival of classroom teaching for the purposes of reopening of schools in Jammu & Kashmir the parents Association in Delhi amid reports of the possibility of an advisory from the central government for reopening of schools has flatly refused to give their consent to any proposed move for reopening of schools amid a fresh surge in covid cases and fatalities across the country. The response of the Delhi Parents Association on proposed move for reopening schools is an eye opener for the school associations and top functionaries of the School Education Department pitching for reopening of schools amid a surge in both covid cases and as well as fatalities in Jammu & Kashmir. Parents by any standards of understandabilities in any part of the world won’t like to risk the lives of their children for the purposes of the revival of classroom teaching amid an unprecedented rise in the current wave of covid-19 pandemic and as such parent’s consent on revival of classroom teaching is not only inevitable but also unavoidable in the current wave of covid pandemic. While human wisdom demands that health safety of the students is to be preferred over their education, the ongoing vaccination drive for children of 15-18 age group unless and until made a priority by both the parents and as well as the government the possibilities of reopening schools for the purposes of classroom teaching can’t be explored. It is the duty of the parents not to encourage vaccine hesitancy in the ongoing vaccination drive for the children of 15-18 years age group the way it was encouraged in case of adults during last year’s vaccination drive.
Today school heads are calling parents to bring their children of 15-18 years age group to schools for vaccination but vaccination teams may have to drop at the gates of the school children in the coming months to vaccinate them for facilitating their safe return to schools keeping in view the fact the adults vaccinated fully during last one year are now fully protected against even the current wave of covid pandemic. It is for the parents to persuade their children to undergo vaccination without any hesitancy for their own safety and also for their early return to classrooms for regular class attendance in their schools.
The completion of vaccination of the children of 15-18 years age group by all standards of understandabilities could be a turning point in the proposed move of the government for restoration of classroom teaching for the purposes of reopening of schools in Jammu & Kashmir like many states and union territories of the country.
