2 drug peddlers arrested in Ang & Srinagar, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Anantnag& Srinagar and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Monday police said that Police Station Anantnag received a specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Nawaz Ahmad Wani son of MohdYousuf Wani resident of Hakura has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.
Stating that on receiving inputs a Police party along with Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location and upon searches 70Kgs of Poppy straw were recovered from the said house police in it’s statement however said that the accused managed to escape from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
“In yet another action, a police party of Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Daggapora Khanabal intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing police party tried to escape from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party and identified as Rouf Ahmad Nanda son of Abdul Hameed Nanda resident of Daggapora Khanabal’ , reads the police statement, adding therein that “during checking, officers recovered 12Kgs of poppy straw from the possession of the above named accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody”.
Stating that in Srinagar, a police party from PS Rajbagh at a checkpoint established at Abdullah Bridge Srinagar and intercepted a suspicious person who was identified as Umar Sadiq Dar son of Mohd Sadiq Dar resident of Gopalpora Wathoora Budgam, police in it’s statement further said that upon checking, officers recovered 250 strips & 6000 capsules of banned drug from the possession of the above named accused who was arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Police in it’s statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
