Budgam : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Budgam districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said the in Kulgam, officers at a checkpoint established near Kund gate in Qazigund area intercepted a person after finding him roaming in a suspicious condition and subsequently identified him as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Sattar Bhat resident of Khargund Qazigund and upon checking recovered 10 gram of Brown Sugar from the possession of the said person following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating the in yet another similar action, a police party of PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Laroo Crossing intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing police party tried to escape from the spot but alert party apprehended him tactfully and upon checking recovered 12Kgs of Poppy Straw, 3 grams of Brown Sugar & Digital Weighing Machine concealed in a nylon bag from his possession, police in it’s above referred statement further said that the said person was identified as Sarwar Ahmad Bhat@SarMolvi son of Mohamad Maqbool Bhat resident of Labripora Kulgam and subsequently arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
“Meanwhile in Budgam, officers from PS Budgam intercepted two suspicious persons at a checkpoint established at Bathar Budgam and upon their personal search recovered 335gms of Charas covered in maize leaves from their possession following which they were identified as Gulzar Ahmed Paul son of Abdul Rehman Paul and Nisar Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rehman Dar both residents of Narkara Budgam”, reads the police statement, adding that “ both the accused were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody”.
Stating cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigations have been taken up, police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions are taken against drug peddlers to show that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
