Kishtwar : The Indian Army has always been “True it its commitment” in providing a helping hand to empower the women in the far-flung areas of the state.
In continuation to the same spirit, the Army inaugurated a 90 day tailoring and stitching course on the occasion of ‘National Girl Child Day’ to provide vocational training for the women of Jawalapur (Bonjwah) under Operation Sadbhavana.
This novel training programme is a pilot project wherein 09 unemployed women beneficiaries have been selected to show the collective strength of women by forming a Self Help Group (SHG).
The beneficiaries include women who are victims of militant attacks, family members of permanently incapacitated/ killed militants and females below poverty line. In this women empowerment Centre, the Indian Army has provided 09 Sewing machines besides other facilities. This pedagogy project is a leap of faith which aims to empower these women and also to prove to be an invaluable resource in their difficult times.
The SHG, apart from assisting and aiding them to enhance their skills, will inspire these women to build each others confidence and self esteem.
Apart from the representatives of Army, the event was attended by DDC, Amina Chaudhary; Tehsildar, Irshad Ahmed and Naib Tehsildar, Shaukat Ahmed and local Sarpanch.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, the Tehsildar said that this virtuous effort by the Army will go a long way in amelioration of pockets of hunger and poverty and would also bring greater communal and social harmony in the region. DDC and Naib Tehsildar also expressed that the women of underdeveloped remote areas are also looking forward to becoming self-reliant and strive hard to improve themselves and their family’s quality and standard of life. The villagers present in the event conveyed their gratitude for this enterprising initiative for the positive environment of the unemployed women to pursue a line of profession with better opportunities and to hope for a brighter and prosperous future.
