Handwara : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday police said that officers at a checkpoint established at Wangam crossing on Baramulla-Handwara highway intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL9CJ-2559 with two persons on board who after noticing a police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully and identified as Mohd Yousuf Bhat son of Abdul Jabar Bhat resident of Rohama Rafiabad and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohi-u-Din Bhat resident of Badan Rafiabad.
Stating that during searches officers recovered 2Kgs of heroin from the possession of the above named accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police in it’s statement further said that vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
“A case vide FIR No. 04|2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Kralgund and investigation has been taken up”, reads the police statement, adding that “during preliminary investigation it surfaced that the accused drug peddlers are involved in supplying drugs in Baramulla, Sopore and Handwara areas”.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
