Srinagar: Parts of Jammu and Kashmir including upper reaches on Sunday received a fresh snowfall while plains were lashed by rains disrupting normal life.
According to the Meteorological Department, weather is overcast at most places of J&K with reports of widespread light to Moderate Rain/Snow in both Jammu and Kashmir regions. Intermittent, light to Moderate Rain/Snow likely to continue till Sunday evening.
Expect gradual decrease in precipitation from this evening & overall improvement from January 24 onwards till January 29. However, Fog may develop in plains of Jammu during 26-28th. There’s no forecast of any Major Precipitation till ending January, weather department added.
Major South Kashmir parts including Anantnag, Bijbehara, Shangus, Kokernag, Dooru, Kapran, Kulgam Shopian, Pulwama and Pahalgam including Pir Panjal range of upper mountains received a fresh snowfall of 3 to 6 inches, according to reports reaching here. It was still snowing at various places in south Kashmir.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir also received a fresh snowfall. The minimum temperature was recorded as minus 6.0 degree Celsius and it also received 5.8mm rainfall and 5.8cms of snowfall was also recorded till 0830 hours on Sunday.
The reports of rainfall in other major districts of Kashmir valley were also received.
The summer capital of Srinagar was lashed by rains disrupting normal life. Srinagar recorded a low of 0.4 degree Celsius on Sunday and it also received 6.1mm of rainfall till 0830 hours.
Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded sub zero temperature and it also received 24.8mm rainfall and 13.2 cms snowfall till 0830 hours Sunday. It was still snowing there, the report said.
Tourist resort of Pahalgam also in South Kashmir was recorded a low of minus 1.2 degree Celsius and it also received 9.4mm rainfall and 7.0 cms snowfall till 0830 hours on Sunday.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.7 degree Celsius and it also received 20.8mm rainfall and 14.5cms snowfall till 0830 hours.
The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded a low of minus 2.7 and it also received 2.1mm of rainfall till 0830hours on Sunday.
Leh, Ladakh recorded a minimum of minus 9.0 degree Celsius, while automatic stations of Kargil recorded a low of minus 8.0 degree Celsius and Drass saw minus 10.8 degree Celsius, officials said.
