Sopore : Police on Friday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Sopore and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substance from their possession.
In a statement issued on Friday police said that officers of Police Post Watergam at a checkpoint established near petrol pump Watergam Rafiabad intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05D-6444 with three persons on board identified as Tariq Ahmad Lone, Muhammad Iqbal Lone both the residents of NaidhalRafiabad and Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Muhammad Akbar Bhat resident of Hanga Handwara and upon checking recovered 48 capsules and 94 tablets of banned drug & 3 grams of brown sugar from their possession after which they were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, police in it’s statement further said that a case vide FIR No. 02/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha and investigation also initiated.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers show continuity in efforts of police made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
