DC takes tour of Ang town, Inspects functioning of STP, ongoing works of MC Ang

Ang | : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla Wednesday visited various areas of Anantnag town to inspect the ongoing works being executed by Municipal Committee Anantnag.
Dr Singla inspected the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Mehndi Kadal that is catering to zone 1 of Anantnag town. It was informed that the plant with a total capacity of 4 MLD is presently benefitting around 1900 households of Anantnag town.
He also inspected the laboratory at the sewage treatment plant and was apprised that confirmatory tests on inlet and outlet supply are being conducted regularly to assess various parameters like BOD, COD, etc.
Executive Engineer UEED briefed the DC that two more plants with a capacity of 14 MLD and 10 MLD are in the pipeline for other zones of the town and the DPR for a total cost of Rs 280 crores has been framed.
The DC inspected the Sumo stand at Wazir Bagh. MC Anantnag is carrying out fencing and construction of a toilet block at the spot. He passed directions for expediting the fencing work and shifting of toilet block to a more feasible location.
The DC met a delegation of cab drivers who requested that a stand be established for them.
Taking stock of the progress on construction of the new stand at Janglat Mandi, he was informed that the project being taken up at a cost of Rs 50 lacs has been tendered and work will commence shortly. The DC stressed on expediting the execution to allow for better traffic management in the town area. He assured the cab drivers that the facility will be functional soon and address their requirements.
Dr Singla visited the Community Centre Building which presently houses the Drug De Addiction Centre. It was apprised that 10 patients are presently admitted at the facility and there is a regular flow of patients in the OPD.
The DC directed that the centre be shifted to an alternate location so that the people can utilize the community centre building. He also inspected the Joggers Park developed by MC Anantnag at Janglat Mandi.
The DC was accompanied by ADDC, CPO, SDM Bijbehara, Ex Engineer R&B and other senior officials.
