Srinagar | : Former Union Minister and Senior Congress leader Prof Saif Ud Din Soz on Saturday on Saturday expressed his anguish over the detention of the leaders of Peoples’ Alliance For Gupkar Declaration (PAGD).
In a statement issued on Saturday Prof Soz said “J&K Government has gone absolutely wrong in keeping J&K Mainstream Political Leadership under house-arrest”, adding therein that “one can understand that J&K Government is bound to accept the instructions from the Central Govt., but, it cannot suppress the democratic aspirations of the people of J&K and it’s decision to take almost all J&K Political Leadership into custody is unwarranted and undemocratic”.
Stating that to arrest all prominent leaders of PAGD is also highly undemocratic and arbitrary and, therefore, condemnable, Soz said “Central Government has gone totally wrong on the question of Delimitation of the Legislative Assembly Constituencies”, stating therein further that “ this question can only be decided by an elected body of Legislative Assembly and even when J&K Government wanted to go by the instructions of the Central Govt, it could have decided to consult the leaders of Political Class in Jammu & Kashmir!”. Stating that “the action against the Political Mainstream Leadership deserves the J&K Peoples’ utmost condemnation!” Soz said “I strongly condemn this undemocratic and unwarranted action against the Political Leadership in J&K.”
