Jammu: Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Friday said that 182 militants, including 44 top ultras were killed in around 100 successful operations in Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2021.
Addressing the ceremonial annual press conference here at lawns of Police Headquarters on the last day of year 2021, DGP Singh, termed the year 2021 as ‘successful’ for police and other security forces.
He said that the parameters of security have improved and they have achieved the milestone of 100 successful operations with the killing of 182 militants.
“Among 44 of these 182, were top militants , who were categorised as A, A+, A++ according to their activities,” the DGP said. “I am also glad to share that the number of active militants has gone down. In the hinterland not many militants are present while due to the strong grid on borders only 34 militants successfully infiltrated into Jammu and Kashmir in 2021,” he maintained.
On Law and Order: The DGP said that 2021 was a very good year on the Law and order front also, as people have forgotten stone pelting and agitation. “Bandh calls, which had earlier hampered normal economical activities, are now being ignored by the people. These are 60-70 percent improvement and if some cases of pelting were recorded it was very localised,” he said.
Local Militant Recruitment: “In year 2021, only 134 youngsters joined militancy ranks in Jammu and Kashmir while 72 of them have been neutralised and 22 arrested. He further said that shelf –life of newly recruited militants was as low as 24 hours only and there were maximum chances of survival for 3 months. He said that 40 newly militants are active and we hope that they return back to their families,” the DGP said.
Terming over Ground Workers (OGW) are backbone of militants, the DGP said that OGWs are found in every colour, every profession, in every gender and every age groups between 14 to 80 and he\she could be a runner or gunner, a feeder or fodder, an illiterate or intellectual. “OGWs are locals as well as global, we are trying to deal with locals as global. We brought many global OGWs under the preview of law this year,” he said.
The DGP paid tributes to 20 policemen who were killed in different operations and 23 personnel of other security forces and said that the killing of one soldier is an irreparable loss to forces but the figures this year is considerably low. The DGP claimed that except two militants all those involved in killing of policemen and other security forces and civilians have been killed.
Many detentions were made under Public Safety Act and over 400 cases were registered under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), which directly or indirectly fuel militancy, the DGP said.
The DGP said that from the last three years, police have maintained the record of Zero killing of civilians during encounters.
DGP said that police actively are hitting the nacro-militancy and have seized crores of cash, huge quantity of drugs, with record 1460 cases registered and arrest of over 2400 people
