Jammu | : Department of Horticulture, district Jammu Wednesday organized an awareness camp at Panchayat Samwan, a far flung village of tehsil Khour to encourage the local farmers to avail departmental schemes to develop orchids.

Ram Savak elaborated in detail about the incentives available under the various centrally and state sponsored schemes of the department and urged them to come forward, associate with the horticulture department to adopt cluster approach for High Density plantation in an atleast one thousand kanal area. He said under the Cluster project the department will provide them 100 percent subsidy for the community based irrigation facility.
In addition to this, farmers can also avail the benefits on different components viz: Bore Well, Geo-tanks, Drip irrigation, Custom Hiring Centres, Aloevera plantation, vermicompost unit, etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
The Director Horticulture directed Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu to ensure 100 percent Kissan Credit Cards coverage of departmental beneficiaries as well as updation of existing KCC. He also impressed upon women farmers to establish low cost preservation units with the departmental assistance and raise their economic status. He also laid emphasis on mechanical control of monkey menace using available technologies and other interventions.
Earlier, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu S.Sarabjeet Singh briefed the people about the ongoing works as well as potential of the area. Being a Kandi area, he asked the farmers to plant aloevera plants in their rainfed areas to utilize these lands and also generate income from such areas.
BDC Chairperson Samwan, Parveen Kumar and Sarpanch Samwan Anuradha, hailed the efforts of the department for organizing such an awareness camp in the remotest area of the Jammu district.
Among others, HDO Khour, Sarpanch Pyt. Naryana, Sarpanch Pyt. Palatan and panches of Samwan block were also present.
