Srinagar: Upper reaches of Kashmir valley and Ladakh on Sunday received fresh snowfall while the plains at most places received little rains, official sources said.
Famous Ski resort of Gulmarg, which is overflowing with tourists on New Year’s eve, was delighted to see snowflakes rolling down from the sky. A report from the tourist spot said that it was snowing slightly at Kongdoori and Affarwat in the valley of meadow.
Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department has organized a nine day long “Winter Carnival” to entertain the visiting guests at Gulmarg.
Reports of light snowfall were also received from the tourist resort of Pahalgam, Betaab valley, Sheshnag on the holey Amaranth route in south Kashmir. The Pir Panjal mountain range in the south also received another spell of snowfall, the reports added.
Jawahar tunnel and zig more on Sringar-Jammu National highway also received light snowfall on Sunday afternoon.
The historical Mughal Road connecting Shopian district of south Kashmir to Rajouri district in Jammu, which was closed for the past three days, also received another light spell of snowfall at Bafliaz and Peer Ki Gali today, the reports said.
The Razdan top connecting Gurez in Bandipora was also closed for vehicular traffic following a fresh spell of light snowfall there, a traffic official said.
Sonamarg, Captain more, Zojila pass on Srinagar-Leh highway also received another light spell of snowfall on Sunday, the reports said.
Reports of light rains were pouring from various plain areas of the valley.
In Srinagar, the weather is cloudy with freezing cold conditions prevailing throwing normal life out of gear.
