Srinagar: A militant of ISJK outfit was among six militants killed in the last 48 hours during four encounters in South Kashmir, police said here on Sunday.

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), based on a specific information generated by Police regarding the presence of a militant in K Kalan village of Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police and 3RR in the area.

The statement reads that during the search operation, as the presence of militant got ascertained, he was given ample opportunities to surrender. “However, he denied the surrender opportunities and instead fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.”

It reads that in the ensuing encounter, a militant identified as Faheem Bhat of Kandipora, Anantnag affiliated with ISJK was killed. “It is pertinent to mention that the slain had recently joined the ISJK outfit and was the main accused behind the killing of ASI Mohammad Ashraf near PS Bijbehara.
