GCW Parade celebrates Dogri Recognition Day

Jammu | : A function was organized by the Dogri Department of Government College for Women, Parade Ground to commemorate the Dogri Recognition Day which is celebrated every year on December 22 as on this day in the year 2003 Dogri Language was recognized by the Parliament of India and included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution.
A cultural programme was organised on the theme of “Marriage in Dogra Culture”. President Dogri Sanstha Jammu was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Lalit Mangotra and a prolific Dogri writer, multitalented Rajeshwar Singh Raju were special guests.
The programme was organised under the mentorship of College Principal Dr S P Sarswat, while the Coordinator, Convener and organiser of the programme was the National Yuva Sahitya Puraskar awardee and HOD of Dogri Department of the College Prof. Ganga Sharma. Other faculty members who were the members of the organising committee included HOD Music Department Dr. Anupama Sharma, HOD Sanskrit Department Dr. Mamta Sharma, HOD Political Science Department Dr. Neena Kumari, HOD Mathematics Department Dr. Sushma Chib, HOD Hindi Department Dr. Raj Jamwal, HOD Punjabi Dr. Sanobar and HOD Urdu Department Dr. Mohammad Majeed.
The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Ganga Sharma. She said that this function was not only for the persons studying and teaching Dogri Language, but for all the Dogras residing in the Jammu region.
The students of Dogri Department and from all the streams took part in this programme. They delivered speeches, presented cultural songs and entertained the gathering by presenting a skit which included the theme Marriage in Dogra Culture featuring various events of Dogra cultural marriage like Shagun, Shaant, Barat, Kiyoor, Phere and Vidaayi.
Both the honorable guests, Prof Lalit Mangotra and Rajeshwar Singh Raju showered praise on Prof. Ganga Sharma on motivating the students from all the streams in the college to organise such a cultural event to promote the Dogra culture and Dogri Language.
